W. W. Nguyen, Ph. D
Dr. Nguyen has a Ph. D in clinical psychology with an emphasis in multicultural psychology and has almost 20 years of experience working with marginalized, disenfranchised children & families of color in both clinical and community-based settings. He currently works as a Program Manager at a local Bay Area jurisdiction in the field of child protection and has been doing so for at least 15 years. Dr. Nguyen has experience working as a child protections worker, clinician, trainer/consultant, and manager/director within the fields of education, social work, and psychology.
Dr. Nguyen brings his clinical knowledge, expertise, and experience by providing supportive services to various government agencies in the field of child protection; specifically, around the implementation of practices related to the Integrated Core Practice Model, Safety Organized Practice, the CANS (Child, Adolescent, Needs and Strengths) Assessment, SDM (Structured Decision Making), CFT (Child & Family Team) Meetings initiatives, and a myriad of other best practice initiatives. Dr. Nguyen specializes in training, coaching, curriculum development and in supporting the implementation of these best practice strategies in worker's day-to-day practice as well as the integration of these practices into policies that lead to better outcomes for marginalized communities.
Previously, Dr. Nguyen worked as an adjunct professor and lecturer at various Bay Area universities and colleges teaching in their masters and doctoral level programs. Dr. Nguyen taught a myriad of courses throughout his five years of graduate-level teaching that ranged from fundamental theory & technique courses to more advanced topics like clinical assessment, multicultural psychology, and diversity, equity & inclusion.
Underpinning Dr. Nguyen’s work is the focus on taking a clinical, nonjudgmental approach to assessment and collaborations with communities and families of color who have been systemically marginalized due to oppressive systems and outdated policies/practices. Dr. Nguyen strongly believes in lifting the voice of the child, family, and community to create sustainable, equitable, and just changes in policies and practices that best support the communities that it is intended to serve.
